For this week’s Vintage Thingies Thursday, I bring to you Smokey the Bear! I love Smokey. I always have. Probably because I’m a conservationist (not to be confused with environmentalist or tree hugger).
My mom got me this book a couple weeks ago and I treasure it. It was published in 1955. The pictures are so beautiful with really vibrant colors.

I love this last page. “Let’s all be careful with smokes.” If this book were published now, it would probably say, “Just say no to tobacco!”

I love your book so much! I’ve always loved Smokey too. My husband used a chainsaw to make me a big bear, and I named him Smokey! Hope I find a Smokey book one of these garage saling days!
I remember that book! We owned a copy. I also remember “the real” Smokey being at the zoo in DC.
I like Smokey too. I have some smokey the Bear postcards.
I think I owned that book as well. I always love looking at the illustrations in those old books.
I love this book. I think at one time we had this book…sure do wish I knew what happened to it….thanks for the reminder of a great childhood book.
Have a great VTT and a great holiday weekend.
I think we used to have this book, too! I forgot all about Smokey- ahh- nostalgia!
I like old books too the older the better. They have history.

Since I am very fond of books and read a lot, enjoyed your post. The older children books are still the best to me. Thank you for visiting my post.
I love Smokey, too. I also love little golden books, I have lots, I’m not sure, I may even have that one.
I wish they would reprint this book. It is such a timeless treasure!! I’m sure they have updated versions but there is something so endearing about the older ones.
I love this little book and I well remember Smoky. Those little books were the greatest. Happy VTT, have a wonderful and safe 4th..
I loved Smokey as a kid! We always had Smokey the Bear posters at school and I can just see him saying “Only YOU can prevent forest fires”!
I always say ‘only YOU can prevent forest fires’ in a deep stern voice to my kids and they just look at me like I’m nuts! Wonderful gift from your Mom!
Great book…love old books.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Kristine
I remember that book from when I was little!
